Money paid by mistake goes back where it came from.

This covers maintenance and other dues paid to a society through the Nivas app. It says when a payment is refunded, who decides, and how long each step takes.

When refunds apply

Four situations, four answers.

Refunded

Paid twice, or paid more than was owed

If a flat’s dues were settled another way while the bank was still confirming an online payment, the app does not quietly turn the extra into an advance. It flags the payment for the treasurer, who refunds the difference.

Committee decides

Paid for the wrong flat, or a bill was wrong

Tell your committee or write to us. If the committee agrees, it refunds the payment in the app. It may instead correct the bill and adjust it against the right flat, as its own rules allow.

Reversed by the bank

Money left your account but the payment failed

That is not a refund; nothing reached the society. We keep checking with ICICI Bank for up to 4 days, and a failed debit is reversed by your bank under the Reserve Bank of India's turnaround rules for failed transactions.

Not refunded

Dues that were billed and paid correctly

Maintenance is owed to the society. A correct payment is not refundable, and a disagreement about the amount is for the committee, which sets it.

How a refund happens

Four steps, from asking to money back.

  1. 1AskWrite to your committee, or to us with your flat and the payment’s reference number from the receipt.
  2. 2The committee approvesThe money is the society’s, so only its treasurer or chairman can authorise a refund. We pass your request to them.
  3. 3Nivas sends it to the bankThe full amount, once. The receipt is cancelled and marked “Money Returned”, so the society’s books still balance.
  4. 4The bank returns itTo the card, UPI account or bank account you paid from. The time it takes depends on your bank.

How long it takes.

We acknowledge a request within
2 working days
The committee decides, and we send it, within
7 working days
The bank returns it, usually within
5–7 working days

Bank charges

You get back the full amount you paid. Any charge the bank keeps on a refunded payment is borne by the society, not by you.

Fees paid to Nivas itself.

The pilot is free, so there is nothing to refund. Once a society is on a paid plan, a fee charged in error, or for a period in which we could not provide the service, is refunded in full. A period that has already started is otherwise not refunded; the cancellation policy explains how a plan ends.
